Andreas Johansson Österberg, founder of the security firm Nyx Security and the man behind its solutions for intelligent camera surveillance in real-time, has been named “Innovator of the Year” in Dalarna, Sweden by the trade association Dalarna Business.

The award was presented last night at the annual Gala of Stars, Dalarna’s biggest entrepreneurs’ celebration. The Gala of Stars is organised by Dalarna Business, with the Star award going to individuals who have realized achievements in various categories of enterprise. This year’s theme was “Success”.

Andreas Johansson Österberg was named Innovator of the Year because he ”has launched a number of innovative products and services since the formation of the company and created an entirely new market in his industry. The winner’s innovative approach has developed not only his own company but the entire, previously so conservative industry in which the innovator is active.”

The jury was made up of representatives for Teknikdalen Foundation, Almi Företagspartner Gävle Dala, Xbase and the County Administrative Board.

Anders Norling was elected new chairman of the board for Nyx Security at the company’s annual general meeting on 28 December. He is an experienced entrepreneur and international manager who has started and run his own companies, including Broddway AB (road maintenance) and Malte Månson AB (vehicle products and services).

The Swedish security company Nyx Security is set to launch Nyx Revolution – a package solution with both technical infrastructure and training for security companies. Nyx Revolution optimizes operators’ management of camera alarms, so that the number of unwanted alarms to the camera monitoring center is reduced. Fewer false alarms is a prerequisite for running camera surveillance on a large scale.

In order to reduce the number of unwanted alarms and streamline the work of operators in camera monitoring centres, Nyx Security has launched a patented package solution for security companies, called Nyx Revolution. With this solution Nyx provides a complete infrastructure for optimising operators’ management of camera alarms, which is a prerequisite for running camera surveillance on a large scale.

The background for this is that unwanted alarms cost money and reduce attention for the genuine alarms. Unwanted alarms harbour the risk of considerably reducing both the crime preventing effect and the rate of incidents solved. Nyx Security has test run Nyx Revolution both in-house as well as at alarm centres of cooperation partners for the last two years in order to fine-tune the solution and optimise results. Nyx Revolution is now up and running and Nyx Security has been granted a patent for the solution in Sweden.

During the past year, Peab, the construction company, has, together with Nyx Security, made a concerted effort to decrease the number of crimes on construction sites. Now, the results of the collaboration and the introduction of the new technique are clear: So far, more than 100 attempted crimes on Peab’s various construction sites have been averted. In just the past few days, five people have been caught trying to break into different sites. At the same time, another three attempted break-ins were prevented at Peab’s construction sites around Sweden.

Every year, break-ins and other damage at construction sites cost the Swedish construction industry large sums of money. Theft from construction sites alone amounts to SEK 1.4 billion per year, according to Brottsförebyggande Rådet (BRÅ).

Peab is focused on reducing the number of crimes and incidents that disturb the work and effectiveness at the sites. Therefore, Peab has chosen to work on real time camera surveillance, in order to prevent crime quickly, before it is committed. This has lead to more than 100 attempted crimes averted at Peab’s various construction sites.

- I am very happy with the result of the implementation of Nyx Security’s solutions. They are a deciding factor in Peab’s efforts to reduce the number of attempted crimes at construction sites around Sweden.
